1948, at four-thirty (4:30) o'clock Pursuant the following notice given of Vizlng t0 each Bnd every mt'mbers there-Kaplan, Louisiana May 5, 1948 Honorable A group of junior 4-H winners enjoyed the annual outing at the Longfellow Evangeline State Park in St. Martin-ville, last Saturday. The junior winners are awarded this outing annually for having placed first and second in the junior division contests at the 4-H Achievement Day. The members visited the ancient and historic church of St. Martin, the legendary Evangeline Oak and grave of Evangeline.

From there they visited the old Acadian house at the park. The boys and girls prepared picnic lunches and the 4-H Executive Committee furnished cold drinks and ice cream. Those making the trip were: Sloyd Landry, Donald Simon, Lorris Mor-vant. Rex Simon and Marion Gale Breaux of Leroy; Mary Ann Martin of Maurice; Luda Mae Hebert and Rema Detraz of Mouton Cove; Janice Faye Meaux, Donald Mayard, Marion Brig-nac and Carol Ann Choate of Perry; Delton Richard, Dalton Bourque and Eunice Breaux of Nunez; Lucinda Gardener of Gueydan; Beverly Ann Faulk, Mary Elizabeth Theriot, Gaynel Le date in order to ive the children a complete health examination and in-. noculations against diptheria and other diseases.

The examinations started Wednesday the 5th with twenty-five children pre- sent. i A letter was sent to the parents to let them know when they are to bring I their children to the Health Unit sien- The Maurice High School track team was edged out of the state class Division championship in the Louisiana state track meet held in Baton Rouge last week-end. Port Sulphur High School won the championship in that division by only 1 and one-third points and a change in place in any one of the events would have been enough to give Maurice the championship. The Maurice trackmen broke four state class records, won five first places, two seconds and one third for a total of 36 points and 17 individual event awards. Leewood Broussard was the spark plug of the Maurice team winning two first places, setting one individual record and taking part in both the 440 and 880 yard relays which the Maurice quartet won and set two relay re cords.

Following are the places taken by the Maurice trackmen: 100 yard dash, Leewood Broussard, fim. 440 yard dash, Paul Picard. first (new record). 200 yard hurdles, Leewood Broussard. first (new record 220 yard dash.

1948 at four-thirty (4:30) clock P. M. for the following purposes, to- 1. To consider and take action with respect to the issuance of tax-secured bonds of said Town for the purpose of constructing and purchasing a public park and swimming pool. 2.

Blanchard. and Curtis Bouillion. There was absent: None. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Kaplan. State of Louisiana, were duly convened as the governing authority of said Town by Honorable O.

H. Deshotels. Mayor, who announced the purposes of the meeting in accordance with the written notice thereof served on each member of the Board of Aldermen and who then stated that the Board was ready for the transaction of business. Thereupon, there was filed with the Clerk the following acceptance of the call of said DOLZE FAULK INSURANCE FOR PARISH jCHOOLS The vermilion parish School Board, their regular meeting held Thurs-1 morning in the court house in Ab- Inir acted favorably on a proposition Superintendent J. H.

Williams to in-Dy the insurance voluation on pub-, tfhool buildings and furniture in parish of Vermilion from $1,466,000 tn SI 709,000. Bradley Foreman, representing H. J. ueroue, architect of Lafayette, ap-lied before the Board and offered he services of the firm he represents the Vermilion parish School Board any building or remodeling project ae Board may have in the future. The Board also approved the purchase of a locker-freezer of 80 units from the Sterling Refrigeration of Lafayette to be installed in the Erath Canning Center, and the payment of he expenses of transportation of school students to the district and state rallies A temporary building committee from the Indian Bayou High School district appointed to serve during the construction of the new high school building in Indian Bayou.

Appointed on the committee are R. P. LeDoux, chairman, J. Manes, Kirby Duhon, Dewey Legs, Earl Spell, and school board member' Phillip LeBlanc. It was reported that the people of Pecan Island has raised $1,000 for a health unit and library building to be erected on the school grounds.

The School Board voted favorably on a proposition to furnish the additional finances necessary for the library and health unit building on the Pecan Island school grounds and to rent the building to the Library Board as is being done in a few schools in the parish. BIRTHS ARE ANNOUNCED BY PARISH HEALTH UNIT Funeral rites were conducted in the St. Mary Magdalene Catholic church in Abbeville Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock for Dolze Faulk, 79, who died at his residence Friday morning at 11 o'clock. Burial was in the New Catholic cemetery in Abbeville. Surviving Mr.

Faulk are his widow, nee Eva Faulk; four sons, Jules, Isaac, Eldridge and Oris; three daughters, Mrs. Oscar Vincent, Mr. Lessin Broussard, Mrs. Erista Corner; 17 grandchildren and one ereat-erandchild. Blanc of Mount Carmel; Mildred Faulk, Alice Jane Hebert, and Nolan Hebert of Kaplan; Juanita Stelly, Clomer-ine Duhon, Laura Belle Meaux, Jestin Trahan, Joyce Touchet, and McNolan Stelly of Meaux; Margie Fontenot, Patsy Faye Henry, Elma Fabre, Medora Vincent and El wood Comeaux of Indian Bayou; Marlene Butaud, Andrew Wardlaw and Donald Wayne Powell of Henry.

Gene Richard and Dolores Baudoin also attended. Accompanying the 4-H members were: Miss Thelma Legere, Associate Home Demonstration Agent and Mrs. The funeral arrangements were in charge of D. L. Meaux of Kaplan.

Burial was in the Cossinade cemetery in Vermilion parish. Surviving Mr. Bertrand are his wi dow, nee Annie Mae Suire; his mot her, Mrs. Lovenstie Bertrand, a Lafayette, La.

Mrs. Numa Simon, 69, nee Marie Oza Hebert, a native of the second ward of Lafayette parish, died in a local hospital at 10:00 o'clock Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held at St. Alphonse Catholic church in Maurice Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 p. m.

Interment was in the Maurice cemetery. Surviving in addition to her husband are five sons, Elias Simon of Crowley, son, Luther Joseph Bertrand; three brothers, Onezie, Alta and Dolze Bertrand; a half brother, Elie Betrand; three sisters, Mrs. Israel Desormeaux, Mrs. Allen Abshire, Mrs. Ovey Hebert.

The funeral arrangements were in charge of D. L. Meaux of Kaplan. place at which to hold the said special elect special meeting, viz: "We, the undersigned members of the Board of Aldermen of the Town of Kaplan, State of Louisiana, do hereby certify that we received written notice of the call of the special meeting of the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of said Town, to be held at the regular meeting place, the City Hall, Kaplan, Louisiana, on May 6, 1948. at four-thirty (4:30) o'clock p.

H. Deshotels. Jr. RESOLUTION A resolution making application to the State Bond and Tax Board for authority to hold a special election in the Town, of Kaplan. Louisiana, and to issue bonds of said Town for the purpose of constructing and purchasing a public park and swimming pool and to levy taxes for the maintenance thereof.

BE IT RESOLVED by the Mayor and Board of Aldermen of the Town of Kaplan, State of Louisiana, acting as the governing authority of said Town. SECTION 1. That application be and the same is hereby formally made to the State Bond and Tax Board, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for authority to hold a special election in the Town of Kaplan, Louisiana, under the provisions of Act 4 6 of the Legislature of Louisiana for the year 1921, as amended and Act 256 of the General Assembly of the State of Louisiana for the year 1910. as amended, at which special election there will be submitted to the resident property taxpayers of said Town qualified to vote at the said special election the following propositions, to-wit: PROPOSITION NO. 1 Shall the Town of Kaplan, State of Louisiana, incur debt and issue bonds to the amount of Seventy Thousand Dollars, to run fifteen (15) years from date thereof, with interest at the maximum rate of six 6 per centum per annum, for the purpose of constructing and purchasing a public park and swimming pool for said Town, together with the necessary equipment therefor, title to which shall be in the public? PROPOSITION NO.

2 Proposition to levy a two (2) mills tax on all the property subject to state taxation in the Town of Kaplan, State of Louisiana, for the period of ten (10) years commencing with the year 1948 and endingg with the year 1557, for the purpose of the maintenance of a public park and swimming pool for said Town, tjtle to which shall be in the public. SECTION 2. That application be and the 'jJ i ion, and the following named persons, all of whom are registered voters, be and the same are hereby designated as Commissioners and Clerk of Election at the said polling place, viz Polling Place: The Kaplan High School Gym, Kaplan, Louisiana. Adler Hebert, Commissioner: Dennis Simon, Commissioner: Mrs. Roy Landry, Commissioner: Willie Mamie Romero, Clerk.

That the Mayor be and he is hereby empowered, authorized and directed to arrange for and to furnish to the said electon officers in ample time for the holding of the said special election, the necessary ballot, boxes, blanks for tally sheets, numbered lists of voters in number and amount, duplicate compiled statements and all other election paraphernalia necessary for the holding of the said special election, and he is further empowered, authorized and directed to have printed the ballots necessary for the holding of the said special election and to furnish them in due time to the said election officers, which fcillots shall be drawn up in accordance with' law and in conformity with this resolution. SECTION 6. That the Registrar of Voters in and for the Parish of Vermilion. State of Louisiana, shall furnish to the said election officers appointed to hold the said special election, in ample time for the holding thereof, a certified list of the resident property taxnavers of the Town of Kaplan, Louisiana, New Iberia, La. Felecien Duhon, aged 62 died suddenly Monday afternoon at his residence on Robertson Street.

Funeral services were held at 5 p. m. Tuesday at the Youngsville Catholic Church, with interment In the Catholic cemetery there. The son of the late Mr. and Mrs.

Marcel Duhon, he was a native of Vermilion Parish but had lived here for three years. He is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Otis Hulin, Mrs. Stafford Dugas, Mrs. Leonard Vice and Miss Lilly, Janet and Lucille Duhon, all of New Iberia; five sons, Eustis, Essie, Ulysses, Wallace and E.

J. of New Iberia; two brothers, Exal of El Paso and Nenis of Erath; and two sisters, Mrs. Odille Casitlle of New Iberia and! Mrs. Odey Viator of Lafayette. MRS.

Peters and Paul Catholic church for Mrs. Hubert Trahan, 80, the former Helen Guidry, whose death occurred at her residence in the Second Ward of Lafayette parish. Reverend A. L. Saulier, pastor, officiated at the services and interment followed in the local cementery.

The deceased's kusband preceded her in death three months. Surviving are one son, Wallace Trahan of Port Arthur, Texas, three daug. hters, Mrs. Alcee Boutin, Mrs. John Guidry and Mrs.

Calice Breaux, all of Lafayette parish; three brothers, William Guidry of Freeport, Texas, Rigo-bert Guidry of Abbeville and Wallis Guidry of Lafayette. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Leroy Boutin, Len-is Trahan. Raoul Trahan, Paul Guidry, Hebert Guidry and Pearless Breaux. mi MRS.

Funeral services were held at 4 p. m. Monday for Mrs. Moise Girard, nee Marie Touchet, who died at the age of 70 at her Delcambre home Sunday afternoon. The funeral was from the residence to Lady of the Lake Catholic church at Delcambre, with interment in the Catholic cemeterv there.

Mrs. Girard is survivied by four daughters, Miss Clementine Girard and Mrs. Ivy Babin of Delcambre, Miss Claylee Girard and Mrs. Odrese Babin of Erath, and Mrs. Ovey Mire of Jefferson Island; and four sons, Noe and Morris of Coteau, Moise, of New Iberia, and John of Welsh.
