REAL BARGAINS IN CORONATION HIGHLIGHTS HIGH SCHOOL FESTIVAL The coronation of the Abbeville king and queen of Carnival" took place in the High school auditorium Friday evening, February 25. Here at 8:30 o'clock the identity I of the much discussed king and i queen was revealed. Due to the manner in which the votes were cast, no one except the members of the court and those in charge knew who had been chosen to reign over the ball. P. J.

Miller and Nancy Bryan Fo ley held the place of honor. There were five lovely maids in attendance; Gladys Broussard, Maid of honor; Virginia Stansbury, Vernon Mavard, Lois Choate and Marie Griffin. Their handsome dukes were Elton Richard, Ed Sigur, Walter Baudoin, Lester Boutte and Roy Richard. The grand march was heralded by the pages Virgie Guidry and Nola Hebert, dressed in the traditional custumes. Mrs.

Pauline Griffin played a beautiful march for the court entrance. The school colors, purple and white were carried out in the cosumes of the king and queen. The maids were dressed In white and carried adorable old fashioned bouquets cf fern and sweet peas. The dukes wore white and gold satin and gold shoes with huge buckles. The flower girls, Ida Katherine Sandoz and Katherine Edwards, p.actlcally stole the show and throne.

They were lovely in their old-fashioned dresses. Noris Oqu.n and Morine Manscl Moist, made beautiful train bearers. The stage was artistically decorated with palmetto and bridal wreath. The throne stood on a raised platform beside which were brightly burning' candles that added to the majestic atmosphere. Specialty tap dance numbers were offered by "Jo" Richardson, June Theall and Kay LeBlanc.

Gloria Delcambre gave the crown to Supt. J. H. Williams, who crowned the queen, and she. in turn crowned the king.

After the coronation those who desired to dance proceeded to the Country Club for a gala evening. This is the second successive year that the Home Economics Club has seen its candidate for a queen rule over the Mardi Gras gaiety. Last year Miss Beverly Ycung, the Home Economics representative, was the lovely queen of the event. This season the Heme Economics girls also supported its nominee for king, to the extent of putting him on the throne beside their queen. The Heme Economics and Commercial Clubs wish to thank those whe co-operated so splendidly and helped make Abbeville's court MRS.

BOB MAY HOSTESS TO LA CLIQUE D'ETUDE Mrs. Bob May entertained th3 members of La Clique d'E'uile at her apartment on last Wednesday evening. Mrs. May discussed very interestingly, the opera "The Flying This is another cf the Wagnerian operas, and one of the most interesting love stories of any of Wagner's works. At the conclusion of the opera, the club settled the expenses of the birthday party, which was given last Saturday.

The birthday party proved to be a great success, to all the members who were present. Several contributions toward the local library fund were mada, and more contributions will be collected in. the neai future. The date for the Flower Show was r-t for the first week in May. At the conclusion of the meeting, Mrs.

May served a delicious course consisting of shrimp salad, mushroom, sweet pea and pimento patties, tea, crackers and chocolate fudge. The following members were present Mesdames Al ison Moreland, Henry Weill and Roy Broussard Misses Myrtle Bteen, May Olive Miller, Sarah Weill, Minnie Hall, Flor-ine Dubus, Dorothea Gooch, Audrey Miller, Beverly Miller and Hazel Samson. The-next meeting of the club will be held at the home of Miss Sarah Weill, on March 0th. She will discuss the opera, "The Barber of Desert Pearls Desert pearls are not strictly pearls such as are found In oysters, says London Tit-Bits Magazine. They are a vegetable substance found near cactus bushes, and are made into strings of cheap beads.

But they are formed in the same way as the pearl inside the oyster. An animal may bite piece out of a cactus leaf, a beetle may bore a hole in it or a human being may knock or bruise it. Immediately this occurs Nature sets about remedying the damage, and the plant begins to cover the injured spot with tough tissue which prevents water from entering and germs from damaging it When ultimately the cactus dies, or the leaves faB and disintegrate, these pearls remain on the desert floor to be gathered and burnt cr made into knick-knacki.
